Sector Councils

GMACWorkforce maintains strong partnerships with several sector councils throughout the Greater Memphis region.  The talent sector councils are comprised of companies with common skill needs and similar occupations. They operate under the general support of the GMACWorkforce. These advisory councils recommend academic programs, course standards, and industry certifications.

Developed in 2016, these Sector Councils focus on recruiting, training, and retaining entry-level and skilled postions in four specific occupational areas in Manufacturing and Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics.  The Councils also work to attract youth, veterans, career changers, and other populations into the targeted occupations.

  • Steel Fabricators
  • Process Technology
  • Advanced Manufacturing

Transportation, Distribution, Logistics

  • Diesel-Powered Equipment Technology
  • Commercial Drivers' License (CDL)

Sector Council Membership

Membership in the sector councils is voluntary and not subject to dues or membership in any other organization. Members will have the opportunity to interview candidates completing training programs, join internship programs, attend job fairs, and participate in other GMACWorkforce-sponsored activities. Although these opportunities may not be exclusive to council members, it is likely that participation in the council will give companies timely information about upcoming opportunities. Council members will also have additional ability to help shape the activities and inform their scope and timing.
